Gangnam Sushi is a restaurant located in Carrollton, TX, across the street from the Hmart complex.
I have been there a couple times, and it has become one of my favorite sushi restaurants. If you get a set of sashimi, you also get a bunch of appetizers as well.
On my latest visit, I went for lunch with my grandparents and mom. We were escorted to one of the private dining rooms. There were six seats and sliding doors that closed to give us privacy.
Our server was a guy named Jee (who is AWESOME, tip him a lot $$$). He brought out our drink orders and gave us warm hand towels.
The appetizers came out. I had the miso soup and salad. The miso was normal, but the salad had a creamy, orange dressing that was great. The porridge was just Korean style porridge with some vegetables.
Onto the main course!
The hwaedupbab or sashimi and rice with vegetables was a GREAT deal. The bowl was larger than two of the paper place mats and deep. They were generous with the amount of sashimi given and the serving was easily more than enough to feed two people. For the price, it is a steal!
I ordered the Gangbuk Tower which was essentially a tuna tower but with salmon instead of tuna. Although it was a bit more expensive at $14.95, I was the perfect combination and ratio. My server mixed it for me–expertly if I might add. It wasn’t too sweet or salty, and I could taste the fresh pieces of salmon mixed in. The avocado was on point too.
My grandfather got the sushi lunch special B. His meal came in courses of sashimi, sushi roll, fried mackerel, eel, tempura, and at the end, there was fish stew and rice. His course was definitely worth it. The sashimi pieces were huge, the fried foods were well done, and the ending stew was great. I would recommend getting the lunch special A ($19.99) instead of B though as the only difference was the extremely small piece of cooked eel.
My mom got the Louisiana Roll, which had crawfish. The roll was huge. It was kind of hard to eat but still good, although I didn’t taste the crawfish as much as I thought I would have.
We were stuffed after our meal but then this happened . . .
I usually don’t like fried ice cream. It gets soggy, greasy, and just gross. BUT this was great. The tempura batter was light and fluffy even after being fried with ice cream. It didn’t taste oily either. The vanilla ice cream inside was also quality.
This place is great, and there’s lots of specials. Warning, you can’t combine any specials with any check in offers or groupons. It got complicated when we were deciding what special to do but we figured it out (we just went with their lunch special of buy one special roll, get one normal roll free–which the normal part isnt clear but whatever).
I want to be back now . . . *drools*
